Bear River in Nova Scotia: Biological Sewage-works
Biological Sewage-works with the help of plants:
We got a wonderful and extremely informativ guided tour through the works by Carol.
She runs this plant and also the coventional plant and is extremely knowledgable.
This specific plant (covered by a glass-house) funtions similar to a conventional sewage system but has additionally plants added. This plants helps cleaning the sewage (speed) and makes the
system much simpler (less maintanance and less control necessary). The main tank is covered with the plants which absorbe with their roots and leaves the bacterias etc. Additionally air is pumped
in to support the process. At the end you have sludge which is converted (together with parts of the plants) into compost and on the other hand clear (nearly drinkable) water. Surprisingly to us
the water is filtered and treated by ultraviolett light before disposing off to the river. We saw a really revolutionary system and wondered why it is not used more often.
Part of the answer could be: the engineers of the planning componies of sewages-works do not know this technology - very unfortunate.

Our very special impressions of Canada:
-
-
Coffee: no driver without coffee mug
Scene at a lake: a young family (with two young children) arrive to see the sunset and to feed ducks. He has his coffee mug in his left while driving, while he leaves the car, while he opens the door for the kits. She has the important mug in her right hand while she assist driving, while graciously comes out of the car and while she fotografs the kits. And when they leave the place after 25 minutes still the mugs in hand - was there ever coffee inside??
-
Car drivers: are all and really all extremly cautious and considerate to others.
When you walk along the footpath don´t dare to look to the other side - immediately the next to you car will stop - even at the motorway. In contrary in Italy they will roll over you even at the pedestrian crossing.

If you have to pee urgently during driving:
Canada is extremely large (second largest country in the world) with little population. Driving their and coming from densly populated Europe you think: in case you have to pee urgently, no problem just stop and you are set.
Totally wrong: in Canada all the inhabitants live along the roads with mile long gardens - so you have no chance to stop anywhere. So if you have to .... you have a real problem.

Thw locw od Canadiens for 4 wheelers:
-
-
The love of North Americans for everything what has 4 wheels ist fairly known. We saw very simple and small houses but 4 - 5 cars in the yard. And
mostly pick-ups known here as trucks. All have 4x4 drive.
We thought our vehicle will not even be noticed. But we didn´t think of the car madness of these Canadiens. There is no day where not at least one Canadien (often also 5 per day) stops and looks at our (exotic) vehicle and shouts: „what a rig“. They want to know what we do with that. They often do not realise that this is just a RV. But all are enthusiastic about it and we never expirienced jealousy. And because of this we have met many interesting people and experienced some nice invitations.
One day even the police came and questioned us (only about the vehicle).

- We are thinking of a new business idea:
- - watching of our exotic vehicle out of your car = 2.- $
- - watching of our exotic vehicle on foot = 5.- $
- - watching of our vehicle and talking to us = 10.- $
- Perhaps this would partly finance our tour?
