Canada - Aug. 25. to Sep. 2. 2011:
British Columbia:
In Kingsgate / BC we crossed the border. First station was the nice State Park of „Moyie“. Our target was „Fernie“.
Fernie:
Fernie is a wonderful place (a hidden star). Summer a lot of hiking and biking possibilities and in winter a ski ressort.
We stood overnight in the „Fernie state park“ and had the opertunitiy to get a double place for Terries and Phyls vehicle and ours.
We made a very beautiful hiking tour to the „Three Bears“ and we visited „Old Town Fernie“ - also worth seeing.
Alberta / Kananaskas State Park - Aug. 29. + 30. 2011:
From Fernie we took Hwy 3 towards East to „Coleman“ and here Hwy 940 north. This Hwy is more a logging road and gravel - but in good condition and hardly any traffic. We enjoyed the pine forest and the view to the Rockies.
In Kananaskis Prov-Park we found a place at „Lower Lake“ on the „Interlakes campground“. Next day we hiked around the „Upper Kananaskis Lake“ - a 16 km long trail with fantastic views to the lake and the surrounding Rocky Mountains.
In this park a grizzly mom with cub roamed around and we were warned. Exited and equipped with bear spray and load singing we went on a 5 hours tour. But unfortunately or luckely we didn´t meet „Lady Grizzly".
Canada / AB / Waterton National Park - Aug. 31. to Sep. 2. 2011:
The Waterton Lakes NP in Canada and the Glacier NP in USA are one unit. The Waterton is quite smaller but with it´s lakes „Upper / Middle and Lower Waterton Lakes“ and the surrounding high moutains quite impressiv.
We tried to find a place in „Waterton Town“ - a small but very pituresque village with 100 people - but unfortunately it was full (main saison). So we had to stay outside the boundry. We visited the „Cameron Lake“.
